Sequential expression of neutrophil chemoattractants in cerebrospinal fluid after subarachnoid hemorrhage

AbstractObjective Neutrophils induce inflammation through the exocytosis of cytotoxic granule proteins. Recently, neutrophils have been reported to be an independent parameter associated with unfavorable outcomes after subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). However, mechanism by which accumulate within CSF SAH remains undetermined. Methods Concentrations C5a, epithelial neutrophil activating peptide 78 (ENA-78), interleukin-8 (IL-8), growth-regulated oncogene-? (GRO-?), gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) and myeloperoxidase (MPO) were measured serially until day 14 in 10 patients SAH. samples obtained from suffering unruptured aneurysms used as controls. Results The concentrations C5a ENA-78 significantly increased on 1, while those IL-8 GRO-? during days 3–7 compared control samples. levels NGAL MPO, components granules, 1–5 1–3, respectively, gradually decreased thereafter. correlations between 3–7, MPO 1–3 significant.
